In 2011 Heather created a new company under the name EmpowerFIT Boot Camp with her goal being to help its customers "train for the sport of life". EmpowerFIT Boot Camp is located in 4 cities in the San Francisco Bay Area. Heather is also an independent business owner with Team Beachbody which gives her the opportunity to help clients all over the country with their health and fitness. Using Beachbody's top of the line fitness programs and nutritional products, she is able to virtually coach her clients to success. As a Team Beachbody coach, Heather is building a team of independent health coaches. She truly enjoys mentoring health and fitness professionals and enthusiasts and helping these independent business owners build a thriving business that is fulfilling and financially rewarding. Most recently Heather started a functional wellness practice where she works with clients on re-balancing their body systems using fitness, nutrition and lifestyle changes. Heather's interest in functional wellness started when at 9 months old her son had developed a severe case of eczema. She didn't like the idea of using steroid creams on her son which the doctors continued to recommend and prescribe. She just didn't feel right exposing her young son to steroid creams. After visiting with a holistic nutritionist and having laboratory tests run, she determined that her son was likely sensitive to several foods which were causing inflammation in his body and the resulting symptom - eczema. With the removal of several foods from his diet, Heather was able to eliminate his eczema completely. Heather's passion for functional wellness grew when she found herself fatigued, anxious and emotionally depleted in 2010 after she had experienced the birth of her second child, the death of her mother and the stress of running a business during difficult economic times. She realized she no longer had the energy or motivation to do the things she once loved and she knew that something needed to be done to get herself back on track. She didn't want her kids to remember her as a tired, over-worked, stressed-out mom who was never happy. Heather started her path to healing by hiring a life and business coach to get some support during this difficult time. After many months of working with her coach, Heather had hit a plateau. Her coach recommended that she see a holistic healer who practiced a form of functional wellness. Her coach believed that something was biochemically out of balance which was preventing her from healing completely. Heather met with the functional wellness practitioner and discovered that she was in a state of adrenal exhaustion as a result of being under chronic stress for the past three years. She learned that it wasn't a matter of her being lazy or having no will-power, her body chemistry just wasn't supporting her the way it needed to anymore. After implementing the nutrition and lifestyle changes and herbal supplements recommended to her, she began to feel better and knew there was something to this thing called "functional wellness". And she knew she wasn't the only person living a life of chronic stress and that she needed to get this information out to people and help them start the healing process. She realized that you can exercise and eat "healthy" but still be unhealthy of you live in a state of chronic stress (whether its emotional, dietary, physical or environmental). Heather later went on the complete a functional medicine internship with the Kalish Research Institute where she continued her own healing and began to help others start their healing process. She is looking forward to taking many people through their own self-healing journey. She hopes to help prevent a lifetime of suffering from symptoms created by poor nutrition, stress and infection.
