Highbury Media

We are home to many of Southern Africa's most recognisable brands, titles and platforms. The company has earned a reputation of being a dynamic category leader, with over two decades of experience in creating excellent content within a sustainable business model. Fiercely independent, with an entrepreneurial spirit, we continue to be market leaders despite the ever changing media landscape, by constantly evolving, experimenting and expanding. In 1996, Chief Executive Officer Kevin Ferguson began growing the company when he moved the offices of UK-based publishing house, Monarch Communications, from Sandton to Cape Town. Then, he began the slow and careful plan of reimagining a small company into today's Highbury Media (HM). HM became a market leader under his leadership over the next decade, through successfully shifting the company to become a significant custom content creator of choice for several brands and companies such as The Foschini Group, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Diner's Club International and many others. Ferguson saw the next evolution of the industry coming during that time as well, and began working to develop teams, platforms and practises to address digital growth, well in advance of the South African market norm. As part of HM's growth strategy, the company has successfully acquired several top titles and brands in order to build the portfolio, including CapeTownEtc and Compleat Golfer and most recently (2017), the titles of Ramsay Media (CAR, Getaway, Leisure Wheels, Popular Mechanics). Today, HM produces excellent content for digital, social and print across 40 different titles in categories ranging from sports, food, fashion, tech and other lifestyle, and has approximately 300 employees. Highbury Media is 100% South African owned a Level 1 Broad-Based Black Economic Empowered (BBBEE) contributor and is an Empowering supplier. Formerly known as Highbury Safika Media, Highbury Media came about as the result of Highbury Monarch Communications concluding an empowerment deal with Safika Investments and RMB Corvest in 2005.
