Hovensa

HOVENSA, a joint venture between subsidaries of Hess Corporation and Petroleos de Venezuela, S.A. (PDVSA), operates a world-class refinery on the Caribbean island of St. Croix in the United States Virgin Islands. This refinery is one of the ten largest in the world and one of the most modern in the United States with a crude oil processing capacity of 500,000 barrels per day (BPD). HOVENSA operates its facilities on 2,000 acres of land on the south shore of St. Croix and employs a culturally diverse community with approximately 2,500 direct and contract employees from countries circling the globe. Our refinery receives and processes crude oil from around the world. We are strategically located to economically supply finished products such as gasoline and heating oil to markets along the Gulf and the East Coasts of the United States. HOVENSA imports crude oil and exports the refined products via tankers berthing at any of our ten docks, some of which can accommodate vessels with up to 55 feet of draft. HOVENSA has storage tank capacity for 32 million barrels of crude oil and petroleum products. HOVENSA produces a wide variety of refined products including gasoline, diesel, home heating oil, jet fuel, kerosene and residual fuel oil. The Delayed Coking Unit (DCU) is the most recent addition to the refinery. Construction and operation of this new unit was the driving force for the establishment of HOVENSA in order to competitively process heavy crude oil imported from Venezuela into high valued products. Our unique and completely enclosed coke handling and storage system was designed to reduce air emissions. HOVENSA has recently upgraded existing facilities and constructed new process units to produce low sulfur gasoline and low sulfur diesel fuel in order to meet the new federal EPA low sulfur fuels regulations.
