Founded in 1971 by Herman Schwelling as a one-man business operating out of his garage, HSM has grown into a multi-national corporation known worldwide as a leader in technology, service, quality and excellence. The success story of HSM paper shredders began with the launch of the first models at the 1981 CeBIT fair in Hannover, Germany. The machines were built then, as they are now, at the main factory in Salem, Germany. Today, over 20 years later, HSM if one of the largest and most successful manufacturers of paper shredders in Europe and America. HSM offers a wide and diverse product line including 60 models in all security levels and meets the widest range of requirements; from the small paper shredder desk-side up to the combination systems which shred and compress very large quantities of paper at the same time. HSM also sets new standards in the baling press market with numerous innovations. In 1983, the first fully automatic channel baling press was manufactured, and is still in use today! In 2003, HSM proudly announced the development and production of its own line of office guillotines, stack cutters and rotary trimmers. Up until this time HSM had been offering a line of products called OFFIS LIFE which included this range of products, but today the HSM CUTTERS brand offers advanced features that cannot be found in any other brand of office cutters on the market...ANOTHER MARKET LEADING PRODUCT LINE! With this line of machines, HSM and its subsidiaries expect to introduce the market to another line of superb and advanced office machines made with the HSM quality value-added guarantee. Since 1971, HSM has gone through many changes. The Company has grown from a one-man operation to having 3 manufacturing plants in Germany and over 11 company-owned subsidiaries that service more than 300 countries worldwide. In 1999, the subsidiary HSM of America, LLC was established in West Chester, PA. HSM of America, LLC markets and distributes their product line throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. HSM of America also makes their equipment available to the U.S. and Canadian Federal Governments, and carries the most extensive line of D.O.D. and CRMP approved shredders available today. Since 1999, HSM has been working with great commitment in developing this new market, and continues to grow everyday. Many years have passed since the first baling press and paper shredder were designed and presented, but the qualities which made HSM strong have remained the same. These include clear commitments on Germany as the central engineering and production location, on quality as strategy and responsibility for each other. These factors played a decisive role in helping us become an international company and in achieving an excellent market position in both the office and the environmental technology product divisions.
