Humphry Davy School

Humphry Davy School makes a massive contribution to the musical life of our community and has an extensive programme of public performances each year, given by a range of soloists, small ensemble and school music groups. An example includes an opera, written by Humphry Davy Students, and performed at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. Three of our students were also chosen as Young Ambassadors for Music, and given that there are only 15 Young Ambassadors in the country, this was some achievement. The school's Jumba Funk band is an orchestra made entirely of scrap materials, and Penwith residents will probably be familiar with their distinctive van rocking up at various places and a cacophony of sound tumbling out of the back door! It seems odd to describe all of these exciting events by writing about them - Humphry Davy School is about Music and action and taking part! Our work in the Community as a Specialist Music College is largely delivered here at school under the title "Penwith Music Centre", a hub we created that manages to bring together over 350 Community musicians each week to use our extensive resources within the school. The Penwith Music Centre hosts a range of choirs, bands and world music groups, as well as running training sessions and putting local musicians in touch with each other. Please refer to www.penwithmusiccentre.co.uk for further details of our Specialist College outreach work and to see how you can benefit from the facilities we offer.
