The HFT® global network of Distributors, developed over the Company's 40 years of operations, demanded the development of Plugs to augment the range of purging systems that HFT® was already manufacturing. In the 1970's HFT® was selling large numbers of clinically white Nylon Plugs for weld purging. As time went by, the volume of sales became so great, HFT® became one of the supplier's key customers. As a consequence, when Hiltlake Limited, a leading Tube and Pipe Plug Manufacturer who owned the designs, came up for sale in the 1990's, HFT® purchased the total company, assets and tooling and started to manufacture the Hiltlake patented plug design. HFT®'s manufacturing facility was extended to include all of the injection moulding tools and assembly personnel necessary for this venture and within the purchase of Hiltlake, absorbed the requirements of many other customers needing other pipestopping products, as well as HFT® Nylon Plugs. Inflatable Plugs and Stoppers were easy for HFT® to accommodate because of all the work necessary to produce the Range of Inflatable Pipe Purging Systems and this followed with the requirements for large volumes of Aluminium and Steel Plugs. HFT® were able to grow the manufacturing range of Aluminium Plugs from the 6" limit, right up to 36" ø. The pipe stopping activities growth was sufficiently substantial that it attracted the attention of HFT®'s key US Exclusive Distributor, who gave HFT® the European territory for their Pipe Freezing Systems.
