Iowa Prison Industries
IPI (Iowa Prison Industries) is the work arm of the Iowa Department of Corrections. IPI shops are designed to provide valuable work training opportunities with transferable skills that the prisoners can use upon release as well as to remain financially self-supporting. Founded in 1934 after the Hawes-Cooper Act, IPI has several Iowa-relevant industries for inmates to work in. For example, textile production, furniture construction, or farming.
