International Budget Partnership

International Budget Partnership

IBP was founded in 1997 to collaborate with civil society around the world to use budget analysis and advocacy as a tool to improve governance and reduce poverty. At the core of this work is a diverse network of over 100 civil society organizations (CSOs) drawn from the Americas, Europe, Asia, and Africa. IBP supports our partners with training and technical assistance, financial resources, and collaborative research and advocacy opportunities. Our experience, including a growing body of case studies, has shown that, when CSOs and citizens have access to budget information, coupled with skills and opportunities to participate in the budget process, the resulting engagement with government can lead to substantive improvements in governance and service delivery. However, we understand that addressing the challenge of budget transparency and accountability will require the active collaboration of actors beyond civil society, so IBP also works closely with the donor community, the private sector, formal oversight institutions, and governments themselves.
