Inverclyde Leisure is a 'company limited by guarantee', not having share capital and recognised by the Inland Revenue as having charitable status. In October 2001, the Trust was asked to deliver the management and operation of Inverclyde Council's sport and recreational services, which include: 2 Swimming Pools 1 Leisure Centre (including ice rink) 5 Fitness Gyms 3 Sports Centres 3 Outdoor Pitches Sports Development Community Facilities & Booking Office Indoor Bowling Club There are eleven members of the Company who also serve as Directors and consist of 5 elected members from Inverclyde Council, 2 Employees of Inverclyde Leisure, 1 from Trade Unions, 1 Local Sports Council and 2 from the Community. The Leisure Trust works in close partnership with Inverclyde Council and other internal and external agencies in order to develop the highest possible service for residents and visitors to Inverclyde and so to ensure the Trust's Mission Statement is implemented. In view of the mix of activities, a wholly owned trading subsidiary, Inverclyde Leisure Trading Services Limited has been established for those activities e.g. catering and goods resale which are not recognised as charitable by the Inland Revenue. The Company benefits from exemption from paying business rates for various properties it occupies. It is a non profit making body and as such its income is generally exempt from VAT. The Company operates out of premises for which it has a mixture of leases and licenses for a period up to fifty years, with various break clauses.
