The IHS Foster Care Program offers potential candidates an opportunity to have a direct hand in a pet's life without actually adopting. Many animals have a good chance of adoption but some need specialized attention because they're either too young, sick, injured, under socialized or emotionally stressed from abuse. These lucky animals are placed in foster homes temporarily and cared for in a nurturing environment by eager Foster Care Owners. Healthy adult animals are also placed in foster care when applicable. Fostering is an excellent way for a pet to receive the one-on-one attention many of them so desire and need in order to be rehabilitated. Homes are provided by responsible people in the community who are often one-time or current pet owners. Socialization is a huge element in the development of younger animals so housholds willing to open their doors to new companions are more than welcome. The IHS Foster Care Program is an excellent opportunity for people who are only have temporary residence and need companionship or want to "test drive" a particular pet with the hopes of adoption. The term of residency is decided by the Foster Care Owner, It can be as little as 2 weeks or as long as a year. If you would like to be interviewed as a potential candidate please contact us at info[at]iqaluithumanesociety[dot]com. You must be at least 19 years old in order to apply.
