Viterbi School of Engineering - Information Sciences Institute
The ISI is one of the nation's largest, most successful university-affiliated computer research institutes, attracting nearly $60 million annually for basic and applied research from federal agencies and the private sector. A pacesetter for more than 40 years, ISI helped conceive, design, and implement the Internet, including communications protocols that remain fundamental to operations. The institute also invented and developed the Domain Name System (DNS), the text-to-numerical-IP-address system that is essential to Internet functionality.
