As a trained engineer and experienced manager, Petrovic says that he's spent the last seven years working on energy-efficient projects in a variety of roles. "I've learned in my work there is always a huge lack of communication," he explains. "No one is able to gather all the details in one place." He says that working in this BIM mindset translates into fewer mistakes and saves clients a lot of money. In the future, he foresees a time when engineers will not be able to get on engineering alone. With technology handling more and more of the calculating aspects, engineers will be forced work on more decision-making tasks rather than only calculating sizes. They must learn now the ins and outs of coding, how systems work, etc. says Petrovic. The best moment to jump into a project is in the concept phase of design. "We focused on coordination and then issues which may arise with the construction site while actually performing the work," he adds. iTech's work for the client is complete, but Petrovic says the experience was another example of why he is happy to be with the company.
