JAAGO Foundation

JAAGO established free-of-cost formal schooling to ensure quality education for the underprivileged children of Bangladesh. It aims to eliminate poverty and illiteracy from Bangladesh through education and rebuilding the nation by empowering youth. It is registered under the Office of the Registrar of Joint Stock Companies, under the Societies Act XXI of 1860, by the Government of Bangladesh. The story of JAAGO started with one man's dream of doing something extraordinary for the ordinary people of Bangladesh. In 2007, Korvi Rakshand, a 21 years old youth from an upper-echelon family, was determined to bring a change in society's belief towards educational institutions. He established the JAAGO Foundation aiming to provide free of cost quality education to underprivileged children coming from lower socio-economic background. The journey started in a small room with 17 students, a whiteboard and a carpet. Today, we have 4000 students studying in 11 districts of Bangladesh.- Dhaka (Banani, Rayer Bazar), Chattogram, Rajshahi, Gaibandha, Madaripur, Bandarban, Habiganj, Dinajpur, Rangpur and Teknaf. Realizing the immense potential of youth, Volunteer for Bangladesh (VBD), the youth wing of the JAAGO Foundation was formed in 2011. VBD combines the spirit of volunteerism with the strength and goodwill of youth for bringing substantial social change and raising awareness among the masses. Today, this nationwide youth platform presently exists in 50 districts and has around 40,000 registered volunteers across the country.
