Johnson City Bedding Company was founded in 1934 by Mr. and Mrs. M.H. Allison. Initially they were the only two employees with Mr. Allison calling on furniture dealers and Mrs. Allison producing mattresses one at a time. As word spread of the excellent quality of their products and the Allisons integrity in their business relationships their start up business began to flourish and additional employees and production equipment were added. The company grew over the years and the Allisons gradually expanded their marketing area to include portions of 5 states. They enjoyed close relationships with many loyal dealers through the years. Mr. Ed Parker purchased the company from Mrs. Allison in 1972. Mr. Parker pledged to maintain the Allison's commitment to integrity, quality products, and excellent service. The company continued to expand under his leadership. In 1979 the company entered into a licensing agreement with Restonic, an aggressive group of independently owned bedding manufacturers with locations worldwide. Restonic provides the company use of its patents and trademarks, merchandising and point of purchase materials, engineering and research and development, group purchasing discounts as well as a number of other services and benefits. In 1981 the company acquired a 110,000 square foot manufacturing facility to facilitate growth and improve manufacturing efficiencies. The bedding industry's top engineer was engaged to design the production flow for maximum efficiency. In 1986 Johnson City Bedding Company developed a high quality sleep sofa mattress that had superior comfort and firmness while still flexible enough to be folded into a sleep sofa. The mattress was so unique that the company was awarded a United States Patent on its design. Sales of this new product grew and the company added a second shift and additional machinery to keep up with the demand. Many leading producers of sleep sofas utilize this mattress in sleep sofas today. The company utilizes state of the art production equipment. Much of this equipment has been built or highly modified by the company's in house engineering and maintenance staff in order to improve product quality, maximize efficiency, and improve safety. Johnson City Bedding Company has been recognized by the bedding industry and by Restonic for the innovations and unique methods it utilizes in production. They regularly work with Restonic in ongoing research and development of new types of sleep products. The company manufactures and markets a wide variety of sleep products including bedding for the home, commercial applications such as hotels, motels, healthcare, dormitories, Original equipment applications such as sleep sofa mattresses, in wall beds, bedding for marine- houseboats, RV's etc. The company makes mattresses for virtually any application that uses a mattress. Since Johnson City Bedding Company started in 1934 we have seen many trends come and go. As we face the many and rapid changes in today's world us we still believe that the old fashioned values that our founders believed in and practiced are the best path to success and longevity for our company.
