Jennings

Jennings Funeral Directors have offered valuable service to the communities in and around the Wolverhampton area for five generations. Established in 1848, the family firm was founded by George Jennings, a woodworker and craftsman in Union Mill Street, who undertook his first funeral at the request of a close family friend. George and his wife Sarah established the business that today serves many families throughout the region. In 1875 George and Sarah's son Frederick carried on the family tradition. With the involvement of Frederick's two sons, also named George and Frederick, the third generation of the family entered the business. The fourth generation, George, John and Harold, joined the company in the 1930s and the first centenary was celebrated in 1948. The fifth generation of the Jennings family, brothers David and Philip and their cousin Roger continued to offer a discreet and respectful service to families from 1975. Currently the business is managed by Glen Speak, M.B.I.E. The development and improvement of the service offered and the facilities provided by us continued into our second century, including the construction of St. James' House, acknowledged as one of the first Funeral Homes in the country. We ensure at all times that our standards meet and exceed those set out by the National Association of Funeral Directors' code of practice. Our standing within the profession was reflected in the election of the late Mr. George Jennings as the President of the British Institute of Embalmers in 1954 and of the National Association of Funeral Directors in 1969. At Jennings we aim to provide a service based on our long established experience and traditional family values whilst understanding the changing wishes of today's community.
