JH Ranch Overview JH Ranch was founded in 1979 when Gene Johnston purchased a 300 acre hunting lodge in the beautiful mountains of Northern California. Under the direction of Bruce Johnston, the eldest of twelve Johnston children, the JH Ranch opened its doors for the first time in 1980. The first leadership program was known as "Second Wind" for high school students.Parent & Son/Daughter Adventures began in 1992, as a result of the long term impact that was taking place in the lives of teens who were attending the Second Wind program. Over the years, JH Ranch has expanded its programs to include Husband & Wife and Cloud 9 weeks. In 1996, the JH Ranch concept was developed into a weekend format, called Outback America, which could be implemented regionally across the USA. Today there are Outback events in Texas, five cities in Alabama, Tennessee, Ohio, California and Kenya, Africa.
