Kent Communications

Kent Communications, Inc. has grown from very modest beginnings. Phil Quist and Joyce Vugteveen founded KCI on the belief that they could create a great company by providing excellent service. With one customer, personal debt and a strong work ethic, they founded KCI in 1975 and began offering basic lettershop services. The first few years were tough, but through determination and hard work, KCI's clientele began to grow. In the early 1990s, the company moved into a larger facility and expanded its product offerings to include automation presorting and inkjet addressing services. KCI continued to focus on providing superior customer service and experienced steady growth for several years. In 1999, two KCI employees, Joe Wujkowski and Brian Quist (Phil's son), purchased the company. As Joe and Brian planned for the "new" future of KCI, they anticipated a shift in the mailing industry. The advancements in digital printing technology and the need for faster delivery was bridging the gap between the mailing and print industries. This shift prompted KCI to diversify its service offerings to include offset printing and bindery services. In 2002, KCI purchased The PrintSource from Jim and Carolyn Kreiser, and in 2003, purchased Grand Rapids Mailing Service from Bob and Otto DeBruyn. With the procurement of these two companies, KCI expanded to offer project management services from design concept, to print production, to finishing operations and mailing services. The company evolved into a full-service communications partner. To improve efficiencies with KCI, the company moved all of its operations into a custom designed, 50,000 square feet facility in 2005. Now with over 60 employees, KCI offers a complete range of communications solutions to organizations of all sizes. As the direct mail industry grows, Joe and Brian will continue to invest in new equipment and expand KCI's services.
