Klaipda University was established in the area unique from the economic, cultural, and geopolitical viewpoint: on the Lithuanian seacoast, in the only Lithuanian seaport which is to be developed as a metropolitan centre at the national level and is to increase the international competitiveness of Lithuania as a maritime state. Since 2008, Klaipda University has been implementing a national programme of the Marine Valley, an integrated science, studies, and business centre for the development of the Lithuanian maritime sector, and thus consistently consolidating its leadership in the area of maritime sciences and technologies. As the final stage of the programme, on 14 February 2018, a building of advanced laboratories of the Marine Research Institute was opened, boasting a contemporary research infrastructure intended for the development of fundamental and applied science, competitive in an international market, and for the training of highly qualified specialists for the Lithuanian maritime sector. The research on the history and culture of East Prussia, Lithuania Minor (Prussian Lithuania), and Klaipda Region carried out at the University provides information about the historical, linguistic, confessional, musical, and ethnic heritage. The study programmes presently implemented at Klaipda University provide advanced university education and high professional qualification. Klaipda University seeks to educate future specialists and personalities, to develop humanist and cultural values, and to promote a maritime mentality in the city and the nation.
