Mad Dogs British Pub

The company was founded by Scots Laura McAllister Johnson and Andy Neilson in 1984 in Hong Kong, China. Between 1984 and the current time, MadDogs operated a number of British pubs in various locations in Hong Kong & Kowloon. Other than the pubs, the group developed two other highly successful concepts including the famous Joe Bananas Night Club, as well as a beautifully styled Chinatown Asian café bar, both becoming landmarks in the Wanchai region. The pubs were world famed for their good fare, homely hospitality & fun image, evoking the title of Asia's first authentic 'Fun Pub' chain. Businessmen, tourists and rugby fans flocked to Hong Kong. MadDogs saw an opportunity and created their innovated (& soon to be famous) reputation as top souvenir retailers. A trip to the annual Rugby Sevens Tournament in HK, was not complete without the purchase of the new season MadDogs or JB's rugby shirt! Our brand of politically bold 'planet & animal friendly' slogans, lead to controversy and much publicity. Founder Laura, who was an enthusiastic vegetarian and passionate animal rights activists, spurned such tee shirt one liners as 'Save The Whales, Harpoon a Norwegian' So successful were the souvenirs that the company was soon compelled to opened a number of retail stores in Hong Kong, including the store on the harbor at the Star Ferry terminal. MadDogs arrived in the USA in 1995 and opened its doors for business in its beautiful Riverwalk location in San Antonio, Texas. The business was immediately a huge hit and the US success story began. The group have also operated martini bar in Texas including The Leopard Lounge and Shanghai Martini brands. In early 2008, MadDogs International divested its Hong Kong business interests in order to focus and drive its US expansion plans and operations. Armed with union jack flags waving and kilts flying, the group is enthusiastically focused on a new era of US growth and brand development.
