Community Action Partnership of Madera County

The Community Action Partnership of Madera County has been serving people since 1965. In 1964, through the Equal Opportunity Act arising from President Lyndon Johnson's War on Poverty, county governments across the U.S. were mandated to create their own county-based community action agencies that would serve the needs of underprivileged individuals and families. Counties could either incorporate such an agency into their governments or charter a community action agency as an independent, private corporation. The Madera County Board of Supervisors designated the Community Action Partnership of Madera County (CAPMC) as the nonprofit public benefit corporation. Community Action Partnership of Madera County is governed by a 15-member volunteer Board of Directors from all sectors of the Madera County community. Since its inception in 1965, CAPMC has initiated and developed a variety of programs in human services and education. These programs have helped thousands of people, from newborn babies to grandparents raising young children again. From its central offices, CAPMC efficiently maintains all its programs with a business division that can provide payroll, data processing, billing, audits and financial reporting. With a pool of program management expertise, CAPMC continues to expand its services while maintaining a strong link with private enterprise, government and other community-based organizations. The success of this agency is in realizing the true intent of the corporation - to help people.
