Mandat International

Mandat International was founded in 1995 as a non profit-making organization of public utility, independent of any political or religious group. In 2004 it became a foundation but retained its network of support members, who take part in the activities and functioning of the organization. The Foundation Council is seconded by a Consultative Committee that is comprised of around twenty people from international organizations and NGOs working in the different spheres of activity of the international arena. Mandat International cooperates closely with the majority of the international organizations present in Geneva. We hold consultative status with several bodies, notably with the UN (ECOSOC), the UN Department of Public Information and UNCTAD. We are also a member of several networks such as the Geneva Environment Network, the NEDS (the Network of Swiss Documentation Centres), ISOC (the Internet Society), etc. Our activities rely on different types of complementary contributions : Significant in kind contributions from volunteers, members, interns, etc., allow us to undertake projects, develop our activities and manage the organization. Delegates cover a part of the Welcome Centre's running costs. International Organizations and NGOs provide us, free of charge, with a large amount of documentation that normally has to be paid for. A part of our equipment is given to us by mutual aid projects and by businesses. Our public and private partners support certain of our activities financially, in particular the Welcome Centre. Support members pay us subscriptions. In general, we try to put the resources at our disposal to the best possible use. As regards our accounts, they are checked annually by an independent trustee. Furthermore, they are checked by the Federal Office in charge of monitoring the foundations.
