The Cospatox industry consortium is concerned with the standardization of high-quality PCR materials (post-consumer plastic recyclates), especially for cosmetics packaging. "This research project aims to find a standard for the analysis and safety assessment of recycled materials for cosmetic packaging. As a member, we have the opportunity to be at the forefront of developing a standard for evaluating recyclate," reports Anika Brett, Quality Assurance Team Leader at MANN & SCHRÖDER COSMETICS. In addition to determining toxicologically safe limits, the objective also includes creating testing and measurement methods that can be quickly used by recyclers on site. Cospatox unites European brand manufacturers from the cosmetics, hygiene and cleaning industries with recycling companies and packaging producers. The current 27 members exchange technical know-how and experience and use the platform for new synergies. Further developments in the recycling of packaging are to benefit significantly from this cooperation in concentrated competence - and thus not least consumers and the environment. Packaging experts from MANN & SCHRÖDER COSMETICS have already been involved since November 2020 in a specialist group of the Forum Rezyklats, from which Cospatox emerged. Since its foundation in 2018, the Forum Rezyklat has been working on strategies and measures to raise awareness of the circular economy and to achieve the sorting of recyclable materials by type. In the long term, this should increase the recycling rate and the proportion of recycled materials in packaging. In addition, the forum strives to reduce packaging in general and to ensure that new packaging is designed so that it can be recycled and thus remain a resource for the circular economy. MANN & SCHRÖDER COSMETICS ambitiously promotes the so-called circular economy within the company, which is an alternative and more sustainable model to the traditional linear economy (take, make, dispose).
