Maquoketa Community Schools

Maquoketa offers a "quality of life" that would compare favorably with other communities you might consider. The Maquoketa Family YMCA (indoor swimming pool, indoor track, basketball courts, and handball courts) opened in October, 2007. Trailways have been built throughout the city with many additional locations to be added in the near future. A new camping facility at Horseshoe Pond is open during camping season. A new public golf course located immediately north of U.S. Highway 61 opened two years ago. A private country club offers a nine-hole golf course built approximately 25 years ago, with dining facilities, and a private swimming pool. The Ohnward Fine Arts Center, a cultural fine arts center was opened two years ago and the Hurstville Interpretative Center opened in 2005. The public library has recently undergone a $1.65 million renovation project, which will meet the needs of the community far into the 21st century. In 2007, an 80% majority vote was pasted and a $1.08 million contract was awarded to expand the City's fire station. This expansion will include three new truck bays and a two-story office and training room facility. The downtown and surrounding area provides a variety of unique shopping establishments. The Jackson County Regional Health Center offers a wide range of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency and community health services. Our physicians and health care professionals are dedicated and experienced and a variety of medical specialists from neighboring cities provide regular outreach clinics. The Maquoketa Community School District is committed to providing life-long learning opportunities for its residents. Two public grade schools, one parochial grade school, a middle school, and one high school offer excellent educational experiences for the community. The Maquoketa Community High School is currently offering classes in Principles of Engineering and Intro to Engineering. A curriculum has been developed to expand this program to five offerings by the 2008-2009 academic year. In the 2006, the district began offering classes to high school students through the Iowa On-Line Network. In 2007 a $6.6 million expansion project was initiated to construct a new gymnasium and cafeteria at the high school. The community also has one fully licensed daycare and preschool provider, one Christian nondenominational preschool provider, and one parochial preschool provider. In September, 2007 voters in the Eastern Iowa Community College District passed a $33 million dollar referendum which included the construction of a satellite campus in Maquoketa. Whether you are looking for an industrial site, storefront or a place to call home, we are confident we can meet your needs. We welcome you to Maquoketa, Iowa.
