Maucher Jenkins

Maucher Jenkins was founded in 1937 and we celebrated our 75th anniversary in 2012. RGC Jenkins & Co and Maucher Börjes Jenkins combined to become Maucher Jenkins in September 2016. Initially based in Chancery Lane, near to the Silver Vaults and IPO, the firm moved to Fetter Lane in the nineteen eighties and then Caxton Street in 1993. In 1992 Jenkins was proud to be awarded the Queens Award for Export Achievement and continues to win awards for its work in the fields of Patents, Trade Marks and Designs. In 1996 Jenkins opened an office in Alicante prior to the first Community Trade Mark (now European Union Trade Mark) Applications. In the same year, Judy John became the first female partner and now over half of Maucher Jenkins' employees are female, including four partners. In 1998 Steve James filed the Trade Mark for the "TARZAN" yell for Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. and this was one of the first "sound" marks to be filed. Steve also took over responsibility for the Lucasfilm Entertainment portfolio, including the marks "STAR WARS", "DARTH VADER", "CHEWBACCA", "LUKE SKYWALKER" and a number of others. Further famous names that Steve James and Richard Jenkins filed included "BATMAN", "BUGS BUNNY", "GREMLINS" and "ROAD RUNNER". The Munich office opened in 2003 when Felix Rummler rejoined Jenkins, having first qualified in the UK as a Chartered Patent Attorney and European Trade Mark & Design Attorney and moved to Germany to further qualify as a Patentanwalt (German Patent Attorney). In 2003 David Musker was the first to file a Community Design, and later, the first e-filed Community Design. In the same year, David became the first Patent Attorney to appear pro bono before an English Patent Court judge. In 2012 Jenkins opened offices in Farnham and Beijing and commenced its acquisition of Maucher Börjes in Freiburg to create a new firm called Maucher Börjes Jenkins [MBJ] with offices in Munich and Freiburg. On 1 December 2013, we opened an office in Basel and continue to expand the business into different markets. In September 2016, RGC Jenkins & Co and Maucher Börjes Jenkins combined to become Maucher Jenkins, following a period of significant collaboration and integration of the two firms, after fully completing the acquisition of MBJ in Freiburg in the autumn of 2015. Maucher Jenkins was launched at the 2016 AIPPI World Congress in Milan on 19th September 2016. This now takes the total number of partners to 15.
