Shawnee News-Star

In 1909, The Evening News merged with the Daily Star to form the evening newspaper, The Monroe News-Star. In 1929, Col. Robert Ewing, who was then publisher of The New Orleans States and Shreveport Times, established The Monroe Morning World and acquired The News-Star one year later. The two papers remained in the Ewing family until the Gannett acquisition June 16, 1977. The Morning World and The News-Star consolidated August 4, 1980 and became The News-Star-World. The name was later changed and the first edition of The News-Star was printed May 22, 1988. Our mission is to provide accurate and comprehensive news, advertising and public service information to our readers in a timely fashion every day of the year. All the departments of the Paper work together toward this common goal. Each department takes pride in its expressed care and concern for The News-Star's readers, advertisers, subscribers, employees and the people within the surrounding communities
