The North Halifax Grammar School
NHGS was established on its present site in 1985. It became a Foundation School in 1999 and a Specialist Science School in 2004. Following its successful inspection in December 2007 it was re-designated for a further three years. It was also designated as a High Performing Specialist School and from April 2009 until July 2012 had Languages as a second specialist focus. The school was nominated by the DCSF as Calderdale's lead centre for Gifted and Talented G&T) Education from 2009. NHGS became an Academy on the first of June 2011. We continue to offer all the National Curriculum subjects with a wide range of options in the 14-19 phase that reflects the school's scientific and mathematical expertise and its wider commitment to a broad and balanced education. The school's success is attributable to a very hard working and well-qualified staff (the school has maintained Investors in People accreditation since 1995); a committed and informed governing body; happy and high achieving students; positive and supportive parents. NHGS is also well connected to most parts of Calderdale as it is served by eleven yellow buses which provide safe, convenient and reliable transport directly to the school.
