Johnston Evangelical Free Church is made up of people from a broad range of backgrounds but we are bound together by a common bond - we have discovered a meaningful relationship with Jesus Christ. The Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA - website) is an association of some 1,250 autonomous churches united in a mutual committment to serve our Lord Jesus Christ with the guidance of the Holy Spirit and obedience to the Word of God. We are committed to cooperate with one another in ministry and fellowship as we seek to fulfill the Great Commission which Christ has entrusted to His Church. The frowing ministry of the EFCA currently extends to some 42 nations of the world. The word Evangelical reflects our committment to Jesus Christ and His Word. We are evangelical because we believe the Bible is God's infallible Word and therefore is the final authority for all faith and practice. We are excited about the Bible, because we believe it has a relevent message to guide our lives through today's confusing world. The word Free reflects this local church's freedom to govern its own affairs. Although we are part of a denomination, there is not outside power that dictates the affairs of the church. We believe that Jesus Christ is the head of the church and we are "free" to follow Him. The word Church reflects our relationship to the world. Jesus said, "I will build my church." The word "church" means a people who are called out. At Johnston Evangelical Free Church, we are a people called out by God to be a lighthouse for Jesus Christ in a lost world.
