Northern Transportation

NTCL has been delivering cargo (i) along the Mackenzie River for more than 75 years, (ii) to the North Slope of Alaska since 1963, and (iii) into the western Arctic since 1957. Additionally, the terminal at Hay River has been in operation for some 60 years. Our marine base of operations is in Hay River, Northwest Territories, located on the south side of the Great Slave Lake and some 30 miles from the origin of the MacKenzie River - it flows from the GS Lake to Tuktoyaktuk on the shores of the Beaufort Sea. We operate a large terminal in Hay River (some 70 acres - see attached pictures) for all our receiving, loading and offloading. As well we have a terminal at Tuktoyaktuk (see picture) that is primarily used for transshipping cargo from Hay River into the Arctic.Hay River is accessible year round by road, rail and air. We also have a large shipyard in Hay River (see attached picture) that maintains our fleet and provides support through it's comprehensive base of skilled trades people. The season on the River begins in mid June and lasts until early October. We have a regularly scheduled annual service between Hay River and Tuktoyaktuk. The season in the Arctic begins in early August and lasts until the end of September. Again, we provide a regular service annually throughout the Arctic. Throughout the years, we have moved (i) large, complete drill rigs, (ii) camps, (iii) over dimensional and over weight cargo, (iv) all manner of rolling stock associated with oil, gas and mining exploration, (v) containers, (vi) buildings and large modules, (vii) break-bulk cargoes, and (viii) fuel.
