New York State Ophthalmological Society

In 1999, the Board of Directors of the New York State Ophthalmological Society (NYSOS) established an annual award to recognize the contributions of their esteemed colleague, Hobart "Hobie" A. Lerner, MD, for more than four decades of service to organized Ophthalmology. Dr. Lerner has served the Society and his profession as its Past President, Nominating Committee Chair, PAC Chair, By-Laws Committee Chair, Board Member, Key Contact Physician and Councilor to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr. Lerner is a second generation Ophthalmologist who has practiced medicine and cared for patients in the Rochester community for 50 years. He is known to play the harmonica to lure a smile from a young patient, and for making house calls on patients who are not physically able to reach his office. The Hobie Award will be presented each year at the New York State Ophthalmological Society's Annual Meeting to the Ophthalmologist who demonstrates outstanding commitment to his patients, community or profession.
