O.J. Mann Electric Services, Inc. is not just another electrical contractor. Founded in the 1970's by Oscar Mann, it was a Bridgeport based union contractor whom its current owners worked with for many years. The largest single project was Bridgeport Center (currently People's Bank Corporate Headquarters), which took just over three years in duration at an electrical cost of $18 million. In 1990 Don Walesky, lifelong resident of Cheshire, and Tony Vaccaro of Oakville assumed ownership of the re-incorporated company. The office was relocated to 777 Peck Lane in Cheshire up until 2011 when they moved into a 5,000 square foot office space and warehouse building on Highland Avenue to accommodate their robust generator business. They are an open shop contractor working throughout the state of Connecticut with an emphasis primarily in the commercial and industrial areas and generator installations. Tony, with an engineering background, and Don, from the field of education have been friends for 35 years. Their shared business philosophy includes maintaining high standards of honesty, fairness, knowledge and commitment to all they serve. With changes in technology, the company's areas of expertise have broadened over the years to include telephone and data communications as well as fiber optic wiring. They are also a registered dealer for Generac, GE, and Kohler generators for both residential and commercial applications. These areas have been added to their already vast base of experience, which includes power distribution, motor control wiring, lighting - including parking lot and sports complex lighting, fire alarm, security, temperature control wiring, and thermo graphic testing. Over the years their projects have included schools, hospitals, churches, retail space, office complexes, restaurants and several assisted living facilities. heir services are utilized in new construction as well as renovation of existing buildings. Although much of their work is outside of Cheshire, some notable local projects include the Cheshire Police Department renovation and expansion, Elim Park addition, field lighting at Cheshire Park and several buildings for Cheshire Academy. In Cheshire they have worked for the departments of Public Works, Recreation and Education. Community involvement is very important to them. Their success in business has on occasion allowed them to donate their services to worthy causes. Recipients of this in part include lighting for the Cheshire High School Football Field, the Tercentennial Celebration, Playground in the Park, Cheshire High School Marching Band. Youth Baseball, Soccer and Cheshire Junior Football. Additionally they have donated wiring for the town Christmas tree and recent work at the community pool. O.J.
