Den Norske Opera & Ballett

We shall do this through providing an education that maintains an extremely high level, including in an international context. Being part of this wonderful opera house is a strong motivator for the on-going work to give our talents personal, challenging and positive tuition, so that they may develop into proficient dancers with strong internal motivation. The Norwegian National Ballet School at The Norwegian National Opera & Ballet does not follow a particular system of instruction. The students are taught by a unique staff of international ballet teachers with broad and varied backgrounds. This provides the students with a broad stylistic foundation, which shall be developed alongside the combination of purely classical technique and versatility which the Norwegian National Ballet demonstrates and demands. Also important for our self-image are the excellent results our current and former students have obtained in recent years in the annual Nordic-Baltic ballet competition in Sweden, the international competition in Grasse/France, and not least in the prestigious Prix de Lausanne. In addition to ordinary training, students from the school also participate in several of the Norwegian National Ballet's productions. Up to 90 children and young people participate in The Nutcracker, and this beautiful Christmas production is therefore one of the highlights of the year. Another is the school's own student performance, which is held on a weekend in June each year. In addition to The Nutcracker, this year students of the school will perform in Alexander Ekman's A Swan Lake, Swan Lake and Romeo and Juliet. Next year, the Norwegian National Ballet School will be proud to celebrate its 50th anniversary. Going forward, we strongly believe that we will continue to be able to fulfil our task of serving the Norwegian National Ballet in the best possible way, and continue to be a central participant in the development of Norwegian ballet.
