Ozedi was developed when David and Ann saw a gap in the market for an economical, universal EDI solution. "Over the years we had many requests and provided solutions for clients who needed to send and/or receive electronic commercial documents," says David Field. "Many of these requests originated from large retailers or manufacturers and required use of a data standard such as EDIFACT or cXML coupled usually with a proprietary transport method." "It seemed to us that the concept of a co-operative effort to build b2G software could be adapted to form the basis of a Business to Business Electronic Data Interchange." The Standard Business Reporting (SBR) initiative was announced by the Federal Government several years ago as a new system to provide standardised Business to Government (B2G) reporting at both Federal and State level. SBR was developed from the outset in a co-design process run by the Department of Treasury and the Australian Taxation Office. in conjunction with the software industry, Landmark Software became involved at the beginning of this co-design process. As the SBR software evolved during the co-design process, it seemed to us that the concept of a co-operative effort to build the B2G software could be adapted to form the basis of a Business to Business Electronic Data Interchange using the same international standards as those which form the basis of SBR. The ozedi digital hub has been built to align with the standards of SBR and we have an informal agreement with Treasury to share our technology with the SBR program where it is deemed appropriate.
