Patagonia River Guides

PRG offers all-inclusive flyfishing trips on the best rivers, lakes and spring creeks in Northern and Central Patagonia. We use the best possible lodging at each destination and ensure quality food and beverage programs as well as incredible service. Our Argentine guides are enjoyable and experienced professionals well equipped to execute exceptional programs. Each and every trip is custom made and designed based on the angler's desires. Trips as short as three days or as long as three weeks are easily executed, and we personally handle every booking along with our knowledgeable travel agents so guests don't have to worry about the details or get sold what we can't deliver. Browse through the website and you'll get a glimpse of what we offer and how we do things. The PRG Experience is a unique one that photos don't do justice, writing can't completely describe, so the only way to truly enjoy and appreciate the PRG Experience is, well, to experience it! Our fishing programs are similar to what anglers expect from fly out lodges--without the planes--or what guests would expect while on safari-but with incredible trout fishing instead. Because we fish a different location daily, guests will see some of the world's most stunning landscapes, and because the ecosystem is one of the most varied on earth, guests will rarely feel like they have been there before. Fish size and numbers depend on the water chosen to fish daily. Guests could find themselves wading and catching uncountable numbers of trout on a small freestone with dry flies, or floating bigger rivers and throwing large dries and streamers to the banks to catch beautiful wild trout that average 18-inches, or stalking and sight fishing to individual fish in gin clear water, or even casting flies to fish well over ten-pounds on area still waters. If it were even possible to figure out with all the variety of water and fishing, guests would find that the average fish measures somewhere between sixteen and twenty inches. Our lodging offerings vary and include our new lodge near the town of Esquel, specifically designed for the fisherman and ideally located to fish dozens of streams. We also host guests at large estancias in the San Martin area, which offer their own charming lodges and private water to our guests. For those more adventurous and wanting to get away from it all, deluxe over-night camping trips are possible. Each location is the absolute best in the region and the ideal base for a great fishing trip. From our humble beginnings ten years ago, PRG has grown from a two-man guide service into one of the largest and most experienced outfitting companies of its kind in South America. PRG is co-owned by Travis Smith and Rance Rathie who still guide on a daily basis, lead by example, demand the best, and continue to think differently than the competition due to their flyfishing upbringing in Montana. Their leadership, organization, and attention to details ensure that PRG continues to be an industry leader. They refuse to be complacent and this past year alone added over a dozen rivers, nine new lodging options, drift boats, and many new pieces of equipment. PRG can now host guests for up to three weeks with unlimited fishing venues and a variety of lodging options to choose from.
