PAWDEP is a leader in providing microfinance solutions to women groups running small scale industry and farming. We seek to empower women financially to run viable, competitive, and rewarding enterprises that can compete locally and internatioally. "PAWDEP" means Pamoja Women Development Programme. The word Pamoja means togetherness in Kiswahili. The organization was founded in 2003 as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) and duly registered in Kenya in 2004. Legally, PAWDEP has been operating under the Kenya Non-Governmental Organizations Coordination Act of 1990. With the introduction of the Microfinance Act ( 2007) in Kenya, all microfinance Institutions are required to be transformed into Microfinance Banks. To comply with this Act, we are currently working hand in hand with the central bank of Kenya (CBK ) and the Association of the Microfinance Institutions in Kenya ( AMFI ) in the transformation process. The process may take not less than 3 years. Recognizing the role played by the women in the provision of family needs in the homesteads in our society, PAWDEP's clients are all women. It is important to note that at family level, very few women would run away from the family responsibilities in time of need compared with men. The main objective of PAWDEP is to empower poor rural and urban women both socially and economically through development of sustainable economic activities, hence alleviating poverty in the country. Considering the fact that there are different strata of economically disadvantaged women population in our country (Kenya), PAWDEP works with three different groups of entrepreneurs namely: Survival enterprises, Family enterprises and Growth enterprises with less than 10 employees. PAWDEP utilizes modified approaches for these groups of customers. This means that the products developed and their packages, training offered, guarantee mechanism and monitoring techniques employed will depends on the client category. We have an accumulated management expertise in micro-enterprise management, international financial accounting standards and a solid team of microfinance experts. Our products are diversified to serve start-up businesses including capital investment and asset finance for medium businesses . We also provide a diversified portfolio of women groups' financial products.
