Philadelphia Gear
Philadelphia Gear was founded in 1892 during a time when the steel industry boomed in Pennsylvania. The company originally develop gearing for steel, machinery, ships, and bridges. After WWII the company began integrating European technology with radical success, and was soon contracted by the Department of Defense and NASA to supply gearing for large-scale radar and radio telescopes. As the industry continued to grow increasing amounts of power transmission were needed with ever-smaller spaces, and Philadelphia Gear responded by reintroducing the principle of epicyclic gearing for power generation in limited space.
