Pickering College

Pickering College is an independent day and boarding school for boys and girls from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 12. Founded in 1842 as a Quaker school, and established in the current Newmarket location in 1909, the mission of Pickering College is to instill in each individual the ability and responsibility to make the world greater, better, and more beautiful than they discovered it. Our vision is to develop innovative, courageous, and compassionate global citizens who take action, true to Quaker values. As part of our Quaker values, the Pickering College community celebrates diversity in all aspects of the school. Our unique approach includes educating and developing the 'whole child' through a focus on academic excellence, co-curricular distinction, character and leadership development. We pride ourselves in providing an individualized approach to learning. Educating and developing the whole student is a shared responsibility between staff, faculty, parents, and alumni. Teachers enable each student to develop their intellectual, creative, spiritual, and athletic potential. Pickering College students are well-rounded individuals who balance a variety of opportunities, feel connected to the school community, and experience personal fulfillment in their lives. Pickering College provides experiential learning opportunities that deepen understanding and develop leadership capacity from a global perspective. The learning community is enriched by bringing together students who represent a diversity of cultures and perspectives to study and live at the school. Our students work to develop into ethical, responsible and active citizens who can make a difference in the local and global community, through our Global Leadership Program. The Global Leadership Program is Pickering College's own diploma program, designed to develop students into creative, innovative and courageous agents of ethical and positive change. Three aligned but distinct programs for Junior, Middle and Senior School students differ through the skills and academic instruction tailored to each specific age group, but all progress to culminate in an action-based Global Leadership Diploma. Students in the Global Leadership Program understand the global context and possess the skills needed to actively participate in this context. With 440 students, our smaller school environment where students know all of their teachers and schoolmates well helps to encourage students and support them to do their best. Students learn with highly-motivated classmates from Ontario and from more than 25 countries around the world.
