Platinum Health

The reason for this is because Platinum Health operates a Staff Model Health Maintenance Organisation (HMO), which means that where economically viable we appoint our own health service providers such as specialists, general practitioners, dentists, psychologists, optometrists, radiographers, physiotherapists and audiologists. Where it is not economically viable Platinum Health has appointed designated service providers (DSP's) to provide services to our members. For this reason members located within a 50km radius of Platinum Health facilities and service providers are obliged to utilise the above mentioned healthcare service providers. Platinum Health also manage own pharmacies. All members that have chronic medical conditions must obtain chronic medicine from our Platinum Pharmacy in Rustenburg, who will courier medicine nationally to our members. Members located within a 50km radius also have to make use of our own pharmacies for acute medicine. In order to optimise cost-efficiency Platinum Health is a self-administered medical scheme which provides managed care through its own Case Management Department. All members have to obtain authorisation for specialist referrals, hospitalisation and specialist radiological investigations (MRI, CT and PET scans).
