Polimas

At that time, it was known as the Alor Setar Polytechnic and it was dormitory building Alor Setar High School. The first group of students, about 120 were accepted for the July 1984. POLIMAS aims to train SPM and SPMV graduates to produce professional workforce in engineering and trade. The campus is located on 28 hectares in the Kubang Pasu district. It was first used on March 14, 1987 and was officially opened by His Highness the Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah on March 23, 1989. From that day onwards the name of the Polytechnic Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah was given, after his name. POLIMAS has grown into a strong institution of education and technical training. Student enrollment has increased to nearly 6000 with a staff turnover of 600. The first principal of POLIMAS was En. Abdul Aziz bin Hasbullah (now retired) who has led POLIMAS for three years. The 2nd Principal of POLIMAS was Tuan Haji Imran bin Idris who developed this institution for 12 years and became the leading institution in Malaysia. The 3rd principal of POLIMAS is Ir. Gan Chee Kuan (now retired) has been very active in developing POLIM for the past 5 years. The 4th Director of POLIMAS is Dr Khair bin Mohamad Yusof while the 5th Director is En. Mohd. Hashim bin Buyong who retired in July 2007. Later, POLIMAS was headed by the 6th Director, En. Mohd Gomenon bin Su, also retired in May 2008. Later, POLIMAS was led by En. Md Noor B. Baharom until November 2008 and currently serves as the Director of Polytechnic Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin, Perlis. He was later replaced by Mr. En. Md. Nor B. Yusof is the 8th Director of POLIMAS and currently serves as the Director General of Polytechnic in the Department of Polytechnic Studies, KPTM since October 2010. Next beginning in July 2011, POLIMAS has moved towards polytechnic excellence with its 9th director, Mr. Hj. Kamaruzaman bin Ismail.
