Preston Contractors

Preston Contractors was the only mining contractor in the state of West Virginia to win the award. To be nominated for this award, mines/facilities must be fatal free for the award period, a safety program must be initiated by the company, co-operative efforts between the company and inspectors must be upheld, and the company must have a history clean of any violations. During the award period, Preston Contractors accumulated over 97,000 man hours with an average of 150 employees per hour and a record of zero incidents or accidents. The Mountaineer Guardian Safety Awards Program was established in 1983 by West Virginia Office of Miners' Health, Safety and Training and the West Virginia Coal Association in efforts to promote safety in West Virginia's coal fields. This award recognizes outstanding companies who have exceeded safety standards within the coal industry by demonstrating a commitment to safety standards.
