Productive Livings Systems, Inc (PLS) provides community living supports for adults with developmental, psychiatric and behavioral disorders. Many of our clients have a dual diagnosis of developmental disability (DD) and a mental illness (MI). Most also have serious behavior disorders that severely limit their freedom and require continuous skilled supervision. The effective management of behavior disorders is our specialty. We believe the most important thing we can do for our clients is to figure out how to best manage their challenging behaviors, support them as they learn new more productive behaviors, then empower them to self manage their own behaviors. The ability to self manage behaviors significantly expands our clients freedom and broadens their options for community living. Our experience demonstrates that expanding client freedom and personal responsibility results in reduced dependency on staff supports, increased quality of life for the client and a significant and sustainable lower cost of care for our customers. PLS is dedicated to both improving quaility of life and reducing the cost of care. We have found that achieving these seemingly conflicting goals requires a close working partnership and complete alignment between the client, family/guardian, customer and provider. The major barriers to success are not the challenges the client presents but rather the challenges of creating and maintaining the required partnership and alignment.
