Prospect Madison
Prospect Madison is a leadership advisory firm focused on researching, convening and developing cross-sector leaders around the world. Our theory of change is that the most complex challenges facing society today - such as extracting resources sustainably, ensuring affordable healthcare and pensions, financial system stability, closing skill and labour gaps, and improving public service delivery - will only be solved through collaboration by individuals who are able to engage and collaborate across the business, government, and non-profit sectors. Why? Because no single individual, organization or sector has the ability to resolve these issues in isolation. A new style of leadership is urgently required to effectively address such challenges. Our recent article in Harvard Business Review - Triple Strength Leadership - outlines the six characteristics exhibited by cross-sector leaders: (1) balanced motivations; (2) transferable skills; (3) contextual intelligence; (4) intellectual thread; (5) integrated networks; and, (6) a prepared mind. Such individuals proactively seek out a combination of experiences across the business, government and not-for-profit sectors, gaining the knowledge, skills, networks and confidence to tackle complex problems from a cross-sector perspective. However, despite the clear value of this new kind of leadership in an increasingly complex and interconnected world, far too few of our leaders fit this profile. The prevailing model of leadership development, found in businesses, governments and not-for-profits, remains inward looking and focused on a single sector. Because the challenges facing our society have changed, our leadership development programs must change too. Prospect Madison's mission is to help individuals and leading institutions across the world embrace a collaborative, cross-sector approach.
