In 1981 the first Australian Ronald McDonald House opened in Sydney's Camperdown. There are now 16 Ronald McDonald Houses in Australia and more than 360 houses worldwide. Other programs include: Ronald McDonald Family Room® - a relaxing haven within hospitals giving families a break from the stress of many hours spent by their child's bedside. Ronald McDonald Learning Program - helping more than 1,200 children on any given week catch-up on missed schooling following a serious illness. Ronald McDonald® Family Retreat - providing families with seriously ill children a week's free accommodation at one of four family retreats across Australia, enabling them to reconnect and enjoy a holiday when they most need it and can least afford it.
