Rwanda Mountain Tea
Rwanda Mountain Tea provides tea farmers via their cooperatives with the necessary means, material resource and skills to ensure their green leaf production and its quality are improved. The tea farmers are also benefiting the measures for improvement of quality of the tea production which has tremendously improved, to such an extent that Kitabi, one of the companies under Rwanda Mountain Tea has in August 2013 been awarded the best black tea prize among 70 competing factories at the 2nd East African Tea convention held in Kigali. Like other surrounding population, the tea farmers are the major beneficiaries of the infrastructures made by Rwanda Mountain Tea, like schools, health centers, feeder roads and houses. The tea farmers also benefit from the Rwanda Mountain Tea projects of poverty alleviation such as hydro power plants and Girinka (Own a cow) among others.
