Samuel Ryder Academy

The Sir John Lawes Academies Trust was created in 2012, when the existing academy trust for Sir John Lawes School took over responsibility for the sponsorship of the Samuel Ryder Academy. The formal relationship between the two schools was a natural progression from the Educational Improvement Partnership work SJL was already doing with the existing Francis Bacon School and reflected SJL's long track record of supporting other schools, initially as a Beacon School and then as a Training School and National Support School. Sir John Lawes School first gained experience of sponsoring a new academy through working with The Bushey Academy (previously Bushey Hall School); a project for which SJL were Educational Consultants. This positive experience meant that, when approached by Herts LA to take on the opportunity of creating the new Samuel Ryder Academy, the governors and staff of SJL were ready to rise to the challenge. That the new project involved working in the primary sector for the first time only added to the attraction. The aims of the Trust are mirrored in the aims of the two schools and are summed up in the Sir John Lawes ACE: Achievement - Academic, artistic, sporting, cultural and in other forms with a focus on teaching and learning. Care - For students, staff and others within and beyond the school community.
