Whether or not you've heard of Scott Barnes personally, you've definitely-definitely-come across his work. As one of the most trusted make-up artists in the industry, Barnes has spent the best part of thirty years creating iconic beauty looks for some of the world's most talented and beautiful women, including Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani, Penelope Cruz, Vanessa Williams, and Cindy Crawford. And if that wasn't enough, he is also credited as the man who gave J Lo her practically-synonymous 'Glow', not only bringing monochromatic beauty and contouring (our generation's biggest beauty trends) to the masses, but elevating women of color as models of global beauty standards in a white-washed industry. "I never had the goal to become a makeup artist," Barnes admits. "I moved to New York in 1984, chasing my dream of becoming a fine arts painter." While attending Parsons School of Design, he began assisting on fashion shoots and fell in love with the environment. "I had someone tell me that I should try makeup and, at the time, I thought they were nuts, but the more I thought about it, the more intrigued I became, so I decided to try it.
