Who we are: Save Darfur Canada is a national coalition of over 30 member organizations and groups, and thousands of people across the country. Our primary goal is to convince the Canadian government to do more to address the Darfur crisis and to support peace and justice in the whole of Sudan. What we do: We work with organizations and individuals to bring Darfur efforts to new levels. Through our campaigns, over 40,000 messages have been sent to elected officials! We provide organizations and local groups with materials that they can pass on to their networks and with other opportunities for make links with local, regional and national efforts. We give individuals easy and effective ways to raise awareness, raise funds, and most importantly, to make their concerns heard by decision makers. Please join our efforts as an individual or as a group. How we do it: Our success builds on the important efforts of individuals who participate in our campaigns. One of the primary ways that we reach individuals is by providing our member organizations and groups the tools they need to campaign for Darfur. To increase the effectiveness of these campaigns, we also work with Canadian politicians from all parties. SDC is one of the co-chairs of the Sudan Inter-Agency Reference Group, a forum in which we share information with government representatives and politicians. We are active members of Peacebuild and the Africa-Canada Forum, and we coordinate with international organizations through the Globe for Darfur group. Canada can and must do more: The members of Save Darfur Canada call for Canada to play several important roles in addressing the Darfur crisis, as outlined in the SDC Unity Statement. This statement has been signed by all members, and outlines our common concerns. Our policies promote international engagement through a United Nations sanctioned framework, with the goal of promoting long lasting peace in Darfur and the whole of Sudan. A not-for-profit coalition: We are a federal not-for-profit coalition, and the only Canadian organization mandated to undertake sustained Darfur advocacy in both official languages. Since the coalition`s formation in 2007, we been successful in moving the Canadian government to take some important steps. However there is so much more to do.
