ShanghaiTech University is an international research university with academic excellence, focused on science and technology. It was founded in 2013, as a joint venture between the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Shanghai Municipal Government. It consists of five schools and three research institutes, including the Institute of Mathematical Sciences. ShanghaiTech currently has 500 faculty members, recruited globally, a figure that will grow to 1000 in the next few years. The faculty currently includes four Nobel laureates, eleven members of the US National Academy of Sciences, six fellows of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, three fellows of the Royal Society (UK), thirty- four members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, three members of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, numerous awardees of various talents programs including the National and Shanghai Municipal Thousand Talents Plans, and the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars. The University's high ambitions are matched by a well-designed state-of-the-art campus, which will also house the new Institute of Mathematical Sciences. The campus is in the Pudong district of Shang- hai, the most cosmopolitan and culturally diverse city in China. The University is committed to providing an international environment and lecturers are encouraged to teach in English. Candidates from all nationalities are welcomed.
