The Oaks Shopping Center
The Oaks is a two-level, enclosed, super-regional mall located in Thousand Oaks, California. Highly visible from the Ventura Freeway (US 101) midway between downtown Los Angeles and Santa Barbara, The Oaks is the only regional mall in its trade area. The 1.1 million square foot mall was originally built in 1978. A photo below notes a historical perspective of the original shopping center. Featuring 130 top-tier retailers including Ann Taylor, Williams-Sonoma, Pottery Barn, Banana Republic, Iridesse, and J.Crew, The Oaks is anchored by Macy's Women, Macy's Men's & Home Store, JCPenney, and Nordstrom (opening September 2008). Thousand Oaks is an affluent, fast-growing, master-planned suburb of Los Angeles, located 40 miles west of downtown Los Angeles, 55 miles east of Santa Barbara and 12 miles inland from the Pacific Ocean. Prominent, neighboring communities include Agoura Hills, Calabasas, Camarillo, Moorpark, Simi Valley, Oxnard, and Westlake Village.
