Malaysia's oldest and largest conglomerate, Sime Darby started in rubber and stretched out from there. With operations in more than 20 countries throughout Asia, Australasia and Europe, its core business activities include oil palm and rubber plantations in Indonesia and Malaysia; production of edible oils; tire manufacturing; automobile sales (BMW, Ford, Hyundai, Land Rover) and heavy equipment (Caterpillar); residential and commercial property development; and oil and gas exploration and the construction and operation of power plants. The general trading arm distributes products, such as advanced composite materials, auto parts, and sealants. It also has stakes in hotels, hypermarkets, and medical facilities.
