Spates Construction

Spates Construction Inc. is a general contracting firm founded in 1974 which specializes in the construction of commercial and industrial projects. The family business has grown from Frank & Jeannette taking over the company from A. Joyal, Inc. in 1974 to include each of their sons joining the company: Grant - 1975, Dana - 1979, & Lee - 1983. In March of 2001, Frank and Jeannette handed over the reins entirely, selling the firm to their three sons. From 1974, we began constructing small commercial and residential jobs growing to projects of the scope of the $7M US Border Patrol Station in 2010 and $4.5 M Springfield State Office building. We have built over a dozen schools, a courthouse in St. Albans, a prison in St. Johnsbury, housing such as Lakebridge in Newport, Hardwick Housing and Bemis Block along with many manufacturing and maintenance facilities across Northern Vermont and New Hampshire. At Spates Construction, we have the qualified staff both in the field and office to offer services from the design stages through construction management to a complete finished product. We employ a workforce of 15 to 20 employees. We strive to maintain our firm's volume at an average of approximately $ 6 M to $ 8 M per year, with an average annual payroll over $600,000. As you may glean from reading our letters of reference, we have been and shall remain a mid- size construction company that prides itself in providing the personal touch one would expect from a small family business, while providing the quality services and performance that one might think only possible in a larger firm.
